The first edition of Birds Of Europe has no letter code anywhere. The copyright page states: Published by Golden Press, New York, N.Y. Original edition © Copyright 1967 by Western Publishing International. English translation © Copyright 1967 by Paul Hamlyn Ltd. Printed in Italy by Arnoldo Mondadori Editore-Verona. $1.25 cover price. The number on the spine is 24023. It is somewhat different than the usual Golden Guide. It lists no other titles inside the book. And it was not printed by Golden Press. (image #1)

The true first printing of Birds Of Europe is the British version, titled Birdwatching. The contents are almost identical to the American version. Published by Hamlyn Publishing Group Ltd.
